A WOMAN who regularly drank two bottles of vodka per day as a substitute for drugs was found dead in bed, an inquest heard.

Dionne Pamela Winterton, 39, was found on August 2 at her address in Hutchinson Road, Cleethorpes.

A post mortem examination revealed the woman, who weighed just 57kg, died from cardiac arrhythmia, an irregular rhythm of the heart, which brought about a heart attack.

North Lincolnshire and Grimsby coroner Paul Kelly said it had been caused by her drug abuse.

The coroner said: "The drug and alcohol abuse had a detrimental effect on the heart beat that led to the heart attack.

"Without the drug and alcohol abuse this might not have happened.

"She died as a consequence of drug and alcohol abuse."

Her mother Janette Winterton told how her daughter began drinking aged 16 years.

A year later she was regularly smoking cannabis, which escalated into heroin abuse.

She told how her daughter stole from her and lied to her about her drug abuse.

Treatment with methadone weaned her off heroin about four years ago but her alcohol intake increased.

Mrs Winterton said: "She jumped from one thing to another."

She also told how her daughter drank a bottle of vodka a day and sometimes two bottles.
