"People in our family have been affected by cancer.
"Currently, my brother-in-law has cancer, and is having a lot of treatment.
"Families really do pull together at this time.
"We have managed to raise about £100."
Amber-Mai said: "I'm really enjoying myself, because everybody has come here together to run the Race for Life."
Michelle Emptage, 38, from Cleethorpes arrived with her dog Mi-Mi. She said: "Our family have been here about three times for the Race for Life.
"My husband has had cancer, and my mother has also had breast cancer.
"It's very important, because without people's support they wouldn't be able to find a cure for cancer."
Sue Dowle, 47, and Kim Bateman, 51, both work at Coldwater Seafood, in Grimsby.
Sue said: "We are here mainly because one of the girls in the office has cancer, so we decided to do the Race for Life.
"She's having treatment at the moment."
Kim added: "We are all such a close team, and the atmosphere today is brilliant."
Nanette Davenport, 31, from Gainsborough said she dropped a brick on her foot whilst working in the garden – yet still had decided to run the race to raise £60 for Cancer Research. She said: "My mum and dad both died of cancer-related illnesses; my mum in 2003, and my dad in 1993.
"This is the third time I have run the race, and I decided I was going to run this year – even if I had to hop the rest of the way!"
The Mayor of North East Lincolnshire Coun John Colebrook said: "This is for such an important cause – something you are certainly reminded of when you see the list of names each person wears to say who they are running for."
Katie Over, 14, a pupil at Tollbar Business and Enterprise College, won the race in 18 minutes, 38 seconds. She said: "I didn't think I would win!
"I am running it for my grandma, who died a few years ago from cancer.
At the latest count, she had raised about £30. "I think it's important to support the cause, no matter how much or how little you raise."
Tracy Clarkson, 39, from Sheffield, said she was Running the Race for Life with her friend Sarah Cranshaw, 33, from Scunthorpe, because of her mum, Pat, who currently has breast cancer. "We're both doing it to help my mum, and have raised about £500 in total.
"She has run with the Race for Life before, but now we're doing it in her place."
Jacki Kerry, 39, from Thurnscoe, near Rotherham, ran the race with her daughter Danni, 12. She said: "We have got a caravan in Thorpe Park, so we decided to get involved."
Danni said: "I feel really excited about taking part, and I think it's important people join in to help."

“The event was amazing and everyone had a common bond. Years ago everyone knew of somone who has had cancer. Now it would seem that everyone has someone in their family who has or had cancer. I don't know if this is environmental or due to better recognition and diagnostic techniques. Nethertheless, thousands of women are inspired by Cancer Research "Well done race for life team" Lisa”
