Women will vote Labour rather than Conservative at next election
Will women turn to Labour now that the Tories have "mishandled the economy"? asks Grimsby MP Austin Mitchell in his Week In Westminster column in today's Grimsby Telegraph.

IN THE days when I used to do opinion polls they always revealed that women were more likely to vote Conservative than men.
Now that political generalisation has been stood on its head.

This Government has behaved so badly to women that it’s lost the women’s vote. Opinion polls now show that women are much more likely to vote Labour than men and by a big margin.
Time for we men to learn the facts of life.
The main reason for this change is that the Government’s mishandling of the economy and government spending has been so bad that women, who handle the family budget and whose work so often makes the difference to the economic survival of families, have been hardest hit by the loss of jobs and the squeeze on wages.
More women’s jobs have been shed. Their wages have been more vulnerable to the squeeze that’s gone on with rising unemployment. Women are being hit three times harder than men by a government with three times more men than women!
With family take-home pay falling, the cost of living rising rapidly and benefits cut, it’s women who have to balance the family budget and decide whether to pay the rocketing gas or electricity bills or to try and save on the rising food bill.
It’s women who make the sacrifices to help their families and those sacrifices are now greater than ever.

“Seeing all the Red arrows, the Labour supporters were out in force last night.
neitzche.
I am not participating in ageism, I am older than Mitchell on one pension only. I do know that he is so much further in the past than most of the present Government. Most Labour supportes would vote for a ferret if it wore a Red rosette. !!!!”

“Speaking as a woman, I have never voted Labour, no matter what happens never will. As for Austin Mitchell he should have been "put out to grass" many years ago.
What has he EVER done for Grimsby ???????
He is well up in his 70's, drawing two pensions and an MP's salary, that is as well as being a paid journalist etc etc etc. One of the Champagne Socialists.
Someone should put a match to his "Soapbox"”

“GTwebonly I must say I agree with your last posts I was duped by a two faced promise breaking con man who jumped into bed with satan himself for a taste of the limelight , but im glad I didn't go tory the loss of the triple A rating is much more significant than has been realised it is a clear pointer to a country on the slide,Browns last acts as pm did start a upturn in the economy which osbourne quickly put a stop to, remember the only people who blame labour for the current slump are the tory party and there misinformed brainwashed followers the fault lies squarly at the door of the tory backing bankers, another point which is overlooked is why didn't Cameron and Osborne shout from the roof tops that the slump was coming when in opposition its easy to be wise after the fact...”
