Since its re-launch last month, over 260 young footballers, from all over the region have registered to take part.

School of Excellence manager, Adam Smith, said: "Every child in the town should have the opportunity to train with their local professional football club.

"Local grass roots football clubs provide a vital foundation for any young player's development, Trawling the Town offers to take those players onto the next stage of that development.

"Since the last Trawling the Town event, we have offered a number of players the opportunity to register full time for the club, which proves that the initiative works.

"We have been overwhelmed by the number of entrants for next weeks training sessions and hopefully the Club will once again be able to make a positive impression on all those who attend.

"All we ask is that parents bring their child to the venue in plenty of time, wearing suitable attire and, most importantly, on the correct evening for their child's age group.

"We are expecting everyone who submitted an application form, either via email or through the post, to attend throughout the week so the turnout at each event should be fantastic.

"Everyone from the club's School of Excellence is looking forward to the trials and meeting all of the young players who take part."

All trials will be held at Oasis Academy Wintringham on Weelsby Avenue in Grimsby. Each session expected to run between 6pm and 8pm, but entrants are advised to arrive for 5.30pm to allow for registration.

The sessions will take place on grass pitches so participants are asked to wear suitable clothing and footwear.

Parents are asked to only bring their child to the appropriate trial for his age group.

The schedule for the week is as follows:

“Have I missed my chance this summer, or are trials for the over-60s coming later?”
