No ball, but Cinderella did go to the Olympics
THIS week the spirit of London 2012 descended upon Habrough for their topically-themed pantomime, Cinderella At The Olympics.
Survivor's Eye Of The Tiger ensured this village production opened with a punch and gave us our first glimpse of Trinny and Susannah, the Ugly Sisters.
Kev Scott and Hannah McKinnon were stupendously over the top and didn't hesitate to abandon their script in favour of banter with the audience.
Indeed, the audience was as much a part of this production as those on stage, because it truly was a community event.
The story featured all the familiar characters but with a modern twist; Cinderella (Colleen Lawless) first encounters Prince Harry (Amy Graham) while in a shop buying sports trainers.
Buttons (Dylan Adams) proves an ace at football and against all odds, leads the Habrough Royals to victory at the Olympics.
There was no ball, golden coach or glass slipper for Cinderella but she did go to the Olympics, won a gold medal and managed to marry her prince in the time-honoured fashion.
And, as her mother observed, that would allow the family to keep up with the Middleton's.
This version of Cinderella was manic, chaotic and sometimes disaster prone but it was impossible not to be seduced by the sheer fun of it.
