FOUR cars collided on the A180 today.

The pile-up at around 8am happened close to the Westgate roundabout and Moody Lane in Grimsby.

A Volkswagen Polo, Vauxhall Astra van, Mini, and a Vauxhall Corsa were all in collision as they travelled in the same direction approaching the roundabout.

One lane of the carriageway was blocked.

“Luke,, GY. Me, an old fart travelling at 40mph along the A180? You're wrong again but then with your intelligence that must be customary.

Clan Princess you don't have to rely on statistics when you know what you're talking about and you plead that we shouldn't be so quick to judge the situation but then the insurance companies will make their decision in seconds. Care to bet?”

“I completely agree that speeding causes accidents. I am forever lecturing my boyfriend about the speed he feels it necessary to travel at. And despite his belief that it is "bad driving that causes accidents, not speeding" (his words not mine) I will never waiver in my nagging to SLOW DOWN!

However, In this case I do feel it is imprudent to blame all the drivers in these cars for the pile up. It is very easy to still be in an accident of this kind, despite leaving plenty of room in front of you, due to the reckless and dangerous driving of others. How many of you can remember a time when you have left plenty of room from the car in front only for another moron to sidle in the space in front of you creating a potentially dangerous situation in the event of an accident? I'm sure I am not the only one with their hand in the air here!

I am sure all of us have been the victim of moronic driving at some point, this may have even contributed to an accident occuring where we have in fact had our ability to control stolen by the idiot who felt it necessary to drive so dangerously. Add this to the fact that a ladder, incorrectly secured to a van has fallen onto the road in front and it is of no surprise that this unfortunate incident occured.

As none of us are perfect all we can hope is that if placed in this unfortunate position ourselves we would be able to minimise the likelihood of crashing, although we can never erradicate that possibility completely.

It is not necessary or fair to point the blame at all the people involved here. Just because there are people out there who are very guilty of driving dangerously and speeding that does not mean that all drivers should be tarnished with the same brush. If that is indeed the case then all so called "safe" drivers (and yes I include you in that as well Pat) will, by the laws of statistics, eventually be in an accident of sorts in which I am sure many pointing fingers and sweeping statements will be directed at them as well.

Even the safest of drivers are at risk of an accident due to the actions of others on the road, so lets not be so quick to judge the situation.”

“I agree that there shoul be enough space infront of you to make a successful emergency stop, however reaction times can often effect this.

Reading comments I assume that a ladder came off a van which resulted inthe first car slamming the breaks and stopping suddenly, the cars behind would not of expected this and even keepin your wits about you, there's still a chance your reactions won't be quick enough. Most times someone suddenly breaks you would see the hazard 2-5 cars behind for example kids running out. But a ladder falling off the van hard to spot and thus your reactions will be slower and the above is the result.

How could it be avoided, it couldn't. Would speed cameras helped probaly not they mght of made it worse as when I get near them I glance at my speedo.”

Its quite shocking how you can point your finger and acuse everyone of being a bad driver. I'm guessing your one of these old farts who drive down the A180 at 40mph causing other people to begin having road rage

Yes i agree theres people out there who break the law time and time again but you cant blame everyone being such bad drivers”

“Simple fact is that if there is enough space between you and the driver in front, when you stop, you wont hit the car in front.
Pile ups dont happen when drivers give themselves enough room.
    Nobody to blame but themselves.”
