“I'm sorry I don't understand your post, what are you asking for?

Your title is "Confusion reigns in the UK!"

People are not confused, whilst the units may not be consistent with either Imperial or SI units, in general there is no confsion, as we all use these units and know what they mean and in general we do not have to convert between units so there are no issues.

People know how tall a 6 foot man is - how many people would know how tall a 1.8288m man is?
People know what to expect if a car is doing 30 mpg but would have no idea if it was doing 7.84 litres per 100 km.

And in reality we trade globally and these are all global units from the imperial units in the US and SI in Europe, so s it not good to have a foot in both camps!”

“TheWrangler. It's obvious you do understand and I wasn't asking for anything....merely taking a lighthearted look at life in UK. Obviously never came across properly!!”

“All over the world, pilots and Air Traffic Control use nautical miles for distance and hundreds of feet for altitude (Flight Level 330 = 33 000 feet as measured on a pressure altimeter). Most of the world still uses knots. Only the USA uses degrees Fahrenheit for temperatures, and air pressures in inches of mercury.”

“If it works, don't fix it. We seem to get along perfectly well as we are.

As for decimalisation, it was chaos especially for the more elderly and there was no doubt at all that it contributed to inflation even though it was denied by the government at the time.”

“In Europe, at least in my experience, TVs are measured in both inches and centimetres. I really don't have any problems with switching between the two systems.”
