“I was born/raised on the Nunsthorpe estate, and grew up hearing tales of how Nunsthorpe gets everything and the Grange estate gets nothing.I've lived on the Grange estate for 2 years now and there isn't the same sense of community that there is on Nunsthorpe, there is a air of hopelessness.Nunsthorpe is almost oval in shape and has one main road that runs through it like a back bone of that community. On this backbone is the local pub, decent shops, school, childrens centre, church and,TWO play areas community centre. You can walk in a straight line and everything you could is within easy and friendly reach.Grange on the other hand has no structure, No pub, church, a shop near the school where the staff are often unfriendly and carry limited stock, a community centre which is only just having some life injected back into it having been a centre of unrest and disorganisation for many years, a school which doesn't embrace it's community, has no respect for and talks down to it's parents and children. No play area at all!! ...It has no heart.Nunsthorpe has always gotten everything it wants, continuously has money thrown at it by the counsellors while the Grange is neglected. I remember vividly Mr. Oxley knocking at my door canvassing at my door for my vote. I raised the issue with him that our children here on the Grange have NO play area and was told there was no money following the erection of Nunsthorpes new (second) play area. It's like Grange is the poor relation to Nunsthorpe . All this money is thrown at Nunsthorpe, and yet it is Nunsthorpe which we repeatedly read about in papers, hear about on the television in a negative light. Grange isn't perfect but considering our children/youths have nowhere to go, nothing to occupy them, nobody who gives a damn, I think it's interesting where the majority of the trouble lies. The saying "Spare the rod and spoil the child" is fitting I think. They have had their chances, please give us ours before hope dies.”
