“Totally agree. As far as I can see they have both been "part of the problem" that lead to the introduction of this new role. Neither has the independent strength of character to make a success of the initiative.”

Don't be daft Arthur, ordinary, tax payers like us don't get consulted whenever a fresh trough is opened and snouts are lining up to thrust into it.

Of course, they'll steadfastly maintain that they're only applying for the position for "our benefit".

That being the case, let them prove it by doing the job for free, as a public service.”

"Good research done there Bill_Igerent and I can only agree with your comments and those by Brian Appleyard which I think echo the sentiments of a lot of the people of Hull, this chap ought to stick to his crummy and tacky insurance adverts and fade away gracefully.Still we can only wait and see what the local labour conjures up for us but the wrong decision will merely further dent theirs and the area's already damaged credibility"”

Oh of course not .. silly me.

It's just that I could have sworn that the Police are constitutionally obliged to be separate from, and above and beyond, 'politics'.

How's this going to work if we have a bumbling old lefty actually in charge of our local the Police Force?”

“I quite like the idea of the first successful candidate doing the 'job' unpaid. This would demonstrate his or her true commitment to the role and allow us to assess the value of the position at no cost.

That's not going to happen, then...

    Arthur, Immingham”

"I worked for ODPM until the infidelity scandal when the portfolio was handed overnight to DCLG. I can only agree 100% with the facts offered by Bill Igerent."”
