“My sister has researched many family trees and only pays if she wants a hard copy of a certificate. She does pay to use Ancestry.com ans she finds it very useful.You did not make it clear that you were not referring to hard copies of certificates. I don't know who you are paying to 'store' copies of your certificates bit I suggest if you can print them off you do that and don't pay.”

“firstly am partially sighted si i carnt find me dictionarry,all i know is i went to the library found the lumpers and the sailors of the familly and was told if i wanted to find out thier parents ect i would have to buy, the wedding cert, then get its role number then i suppose trace the familly by those means, i would rather print them off but you cannot do that.”

“it annoys me because firstly you have to pay to join these tracing your history sites every month, then yet again if you wish to go furthewr up the tree via seeing thier addresses on a marriage cert, and i personally find that hard to bear, i dont mind 9.99p for the whole lot a month but not exztra because i just need and address to delve deeper in the familly tree. i can hear my mum shouting now that 9.99p can go to cancer research for the living or bhf or oxfam or the liver ytrust. the marriage was paid for to be logged their certificates were paid for the monthly was paid , so why more?”

“I still don't see what your problem is. You want a copy of an official document but you don't want to pay for it. Someone has to cover the costs and if not you-who wants the document- then who should?The documents have to be scanned and the originals have to be kept in good condition.If you want copies they have to be printed and posted as I said originally.Any taxes you pay do not cover things such as this. “All of us who are tracing our families have to buy certificates if we want to progress,
You may find that you can get enough information by checking parish registers,
You will probably find that like a lot of families , they didnt always begin thier lives in Grimsby but much further afield. So you have the choice of sending for the certificate from the relevent register office,,which is always cheaper than the GRO..or travelling to the area your ancestors came from and trawling through parish registers to find marriages etc.

Either way,,if you want to progress you have to pay. Try looking at the census returns,,you might find some information there,,or the LDS site.”
