“A perfect example has got to be how the council manages to fill the front page of the GT whenever it successfully prosecutes someone and commits them to prison for non-payment of Council Tax.

However, nothing reached the printed page when the council made a monumental blunder in its over enthusiastic pursuit to enforce a council tax debt which didn't exist. A debt that didn't exist which, however, incurred court costs and even bailiff visits for the alleged debtor. Had the council not been proved WRONG about there being a DEBT, this too would have been a front page feature, and one of the council's committal conquests which it would exploit, to stamp its authority.

Reading through the "IN THE COURTS" sections doesn't reveal the council had been the guilty party, nor do you get the slightest indication that the council had brought a court case it shouldn't have.”

“The Telegraph under the stewardship of Michelle Lalor has consistently shown a huge bias toward the local council. The Telegraph continually prints press releases handed to them by the local authority. The reporters simply change a few words and pass it off as their own work.

There is a story on the site with over 600 comments, the majority of which are deeply concerned about the council's debt collection policy and practices, yet the Telegraph, which once laughingly, professed itself to be the 'Champion of the Community' has not once mentioned any of these concerns in relevant stories.

As part of the editors code Mrs Lalor is perfectly entitled to be partisan and biased towards those who keep her newspaper in advertising funds. She is breaking no rules of journalism with her craven subjugation.

The result of this non journalism and total contempt for their readers has led the Telegraph to the brink of bankruptcy. Advertising revenues are at an all time low as are readership figures and circulation. I'm sure the Telegraph would counter this by pointing out it is a national trend, yet our local paper has always maintained a strong market position in times of economic difficulty.

Since Mark Price succeeded Steve Hollingsworth as MD the Telegraphs in Grimsby & Scunthorpe have resembled a sinking ship. Scunthorpe is already down to a once weekly issue and I can only wonder how long it will be before the Grimsby paper follows suit. The paper is almost a carbon copyof the rest of the rapidly diminishing collection of Northcliffe papers. Indeed many stories on the 'thisis' network, which appear to be reader generated are in fact generic Northcliffe staff generated. You can look on sites in Bristol, Hull, Leicester etc and see the same stories. Hardly local at all.

In addition most local businesses will testify to the ridiculously high advertising rates for what is a declining newspaper. The Telegraph's ascertation that they represent great value is no longer true and many local retailers have cottoned on to that fact.

So all in all, the Telegraph under the Lalor/Price regime has become a laughing stock of low quality reporting with absolutely no connection with the local population and even the initiatives it presents to aid the local community are really just ploys to generate more ad revenue.

Sadly I can't see the situation improving while the Telegraph is in the uncaring hands of Northcliffe media. It certainly does not represent the local community in any way whatsoever, and this will ultimately cause it's demise.

New ownership with a local interest is urgently required. Only then can the great name of the Telegraph be hauled out of the gutter the current owners are dragging it through.”

    “Well said Kenward.

It's all that 'Local Strategic 'Partnership' nonsense. The GT can hardly claim 'impartiality' in anything when it's committed to the all-important 'Consensus" required of NE Lincs Great & Good. No no no .. journalistic impartiality wouldn't do at all!

Look here for North East Lincs very own 'Old Boys Club' who are running this town

“This is a pointless WINDMILLING circular argument generated by less people that could be counted on one hand and is not representative of NEL and no responsible person or organisation would take the slightest notice of the transparent 'plot'.

Claim was made that a website was in process of preparation for 'the campaign', well why don't 'they' get on it with it and leave this site free for the real news relevant to the people of NEL, that we see reported daily in the Grimsby Telegraph.

Of course the campaign website would be the least visited on the internet and the sandwich board and loudhailer might still have to be employed.

Come on, show courage, break cover, don the sandwich board and loudhailer and spout the message outside the Town Hall and as it would now appear, over the flyover as well and give everyone a wry smile.

I don't know anyone associated with the council and the only occasion I meet anyone remotely involved with the Telegraph is when I give my paperboy £5 at Xmas for bringing me a first class read for 52 weeks a year.

    Do you agree Fan?

'F' Absolutely P_ and well said.”

I take it 'applejam12' works for the Telegraph. your comment might have carried more weight if you had addressed the specific issues raised in people's comments rather than whining about the fact that people have expressed their dissatisfaction wit this increasingly irrelevant rag. We may be better judges etc tomorrow, but you were wrong on one point.

Nobody is buying your rubbish rag any more and that is the point of the comments, and to suggest that people will moan and buy it displays the arrogance of thought that so typifies the rubbish you turn out on a daily basis. The Telegraph was once a respected newspaper, Michelle Lalor and her band of tenth rate hacks have certainly put paid to that.”

“I don't know about the others on this thread, but I find your comments not only patronising, but ill-informed.

Call us whatever sneery name you will, but the fact remains, we arethe paying public. And increasingly, many of us are not paying to read the Grimsby any more.

Why? Because it has been changed from being a damn fine local newspaper which it's readers always felt was on their side, to little more than a propaganda sheet for the State (with the odd bit of frothy drivel and sensationalised garbage thrown in - to keep the mindless among it's readership suitably dumbed-down and/or outraged, of course).

I'm not sure whether thats down to the editor or if it's the policy of Northcliffe Media, but whoever is responsible, they have a lot to answer for.

(And incidentally, the Grimsby Telegraphs most popular feature is Viewpoint .. two pages devoted entirely to the views of all the 'Keyboard Warriors' you hold in such disdain).”

The Grimsby Telegraph has sunk to it's lowest standing ever, seemingly printing "stories" that a child would factually question.

The GT has continually printed misinformation about the wind energy scam, simply repeating propaganda from the renewable sector. You would think at least one reporter would have some knowledge of physics and the ability to see through the lies claimed.

At the time of writing, the combined UK wind energy output is a measly 0·7% of the UK demand at 370 MWe, not even as much as a single RELIABLE gas turbo generator! Imagine today if we had ten times as many wind turbines the output would still only be 7·0%.....The GT has never grasped the concept of wind energy requiring wind........and that contentious wind cube law is just beyond their mental grasp.

Incidentally, perhaps the GT might be interested to know the wind energy scam is working very effectively today........ hundreds of expensive turbines are idle in this winters coldest period, Viz: http://tinyurl.com/5beyz and by clicking on "generation by fuel type table, the following: http://tinyurl.com/8362cxd

But then even given to them on a plate, the GT subserviently cow tows to the industry and prints lies about load factors!

The GT is now pumping out daily items, clearly biased as adverts for business's, collecting zero acknowledgement or comment from the readership.

And yet the GT seems incapable of editing or moderating it's readership input to the paper!

Most notable at the moment is the very strange GT tolerance, of some immature imbecile able to spew rubbish at a pathetic level of intelligence rarely seen on any newspaper.

The GT attitude to this ongoing saga beggars belief....or are they deliberately promoting the demise of their own newpaper by allowing decay to set in with a vengeance?”

“crazycat. The whole point of this site is that people can come and get their 'news' for free. The hits on the site from people doing just that, make the site attractive to advertisers who are trying to reach as many people as possible. The Telegraph profits from this.

I have absolutely no idea what you are alluding to in your final paragraph, perhaps you should elaborate.

It appears that those in favour of the Telegraph (crazycat, applejam and the troll) are unable to respond to any of the issues raised about the standards of the Telegraph, and are only able to attack people merely for criticising it.

When your own readers have severe reservations about the declining quality of their local paper, perhaps the sensible thing to do is that those concerns are addressed by the editor or a member of her team. Instead readers are branded 'hypocritical' high and mighty' keyboard warriors' etc merely for having the temerity to criticise.

Must be awful for the two Michelle's and their staff to have lowly peasants like us questioning their betters.”

BBC ITV SKY, all media is in the pockets of the people that have power influence and money. Newspapers and news in general is just part of the mirage keeping the masses hypnotized, brainwashed, paralyzed unable to see the web before us all obscuring the truth behind all the lies that keep us trapped in this illusion of democracy and capitalism. A select few will wear the suits, an unfortunate few will be unemployable and permanently be too stupid to see beyond the next giro and special offer at Lidl, the majority of us will work, moan, consume and die.

Take the Bradford Spring for instance a surprise from no where that addressed the real concerns of the local people, a largely Asian populous voting for a white man who'd have though it. But in order to facilitate such a c change in voting you need to present an alternative credible choice and do the foot work. Get enough followers and then others will start to jump ship from other parties then the tide becomes unstoppable. Does the respect party have the legs to make the radical changes his country needs? Time will tell.”

The options have limited appeal.

Brutto, the GT like most papers couldn't give a monkeys if we boycott it, advertising pays the bills at GSMG towers. Our 40 or is it 45P nowadays doesn't really amount to much.”
