“Plum, it was all over the national press that they had gone bump, I guess that most people probably just put 2 + 2 together.
Clearly no one was using the store - I expect Currys to go the same way too.
Electrical retailers just cannot compete with internet retailers with no overheads, the only reason many people visit these shops now is to look at the products, choose what they want and then go home and order it from the net. Currys have already amalgomated the 3 brands (Currys, Dixons and PC world) and rationalised their stores.
I think the only way we will see electrical retailers on the highstreets in the next 10-20 years is if they are simply showrooms for the manufacturers.”
“I live abroad so I like to keep up to date with what's happening in GY. I can also watch Local BBC TV on my pc. So when I heard on Look North about the closure of the Curry's store in Grimsby I was surprised. I had read nothing about it in the Telegraph. I thought maybe I had missed it-so I went back through the last few days (bearing in mind the store shut on Saturday for good)-not a thing!!! What price a LOCAL paper that doesn't report something like this. Or is it now not news if a store closes with consequent job losses? I know that following the collapse of the parent company these closures were on the books-but nothing in the Telegraph at all?? Do I expect too much from this local paper?”
