“Presumably your not entitled to benefit because you've saved some of your money over the 25 years you were employed. You should have spent it on expensive cars and world cruses then you'd be entitled to the full complement of hand-outs. Big mistake.

It sounds like the Job Centre are trying to provoke you to sign off. I suppose some head of department gets a nice bonus for whittling down a few claimants – makes the official unemployment figures look better.

You aint going to avoid contributing to HMRC just by avoiding purchases with VAT. Everything you pay for will at some point down the line have a percentage of the money you hand over going to the tax man.

One suggestion, can you offer a service in exchange for essential purchases instead of handing over cash?”

    “That was really boring pd!

    Anyway! Another practical suggestion...

How about the TV licence fee, would that be considered tax benefiting the government?

You could easily do without a telly. I hardly think you'd miss the BBC propaganda anyway.

Besides, you should object to funding an immoral organisation which takes taxpayer's money and pays the likes of George Entwistle compensation for failure to the tune of £10,000 for each day he was in the job.

Why anyway should one pay for the BBC/government to censor and decide what news/propaganda we are fed. How does that work? We pay an organisation to tell us the truth when we only get half the distorted stories.

Would you pay Coca Cola, McDonalds etc. to put up posters in your window advertising their product? No! So why do something along those lines with the BBC.”

I can recite the whole works of "Der Ring des Nibelungen" (Richard Wagner's Ring). The only problem is it takes around 15 hours (14 and a half if I rush) to complete a full performance. That's not really practical if I'm only buying a loaf of bread. The baker, in my opinion would certainly be up on the deal.

I like the TV suggestion, but plumduff's suggestion really sucks.”

“If you're not given any Income Support or Jobseeker's Allowance you must either have too much money to be entitled or you've been sanctioned or disallowed probably for not taking an offer of employment or attended one of those joke government back to work schemes.

If it's because you have over the appropriate limit then you must think about putting that into a tax efficient saving scheme (the cons are good like that, offering tax breaks for the wealthy).

Get your money out of any normal bank account and into an ISA where you pay £nil to the tax man.

You have an annual limit though, but can top this up each year to get that cash away from the greedy government.

You also have to weigh-up whether the interest would push you through the tax-free allowance outside an ISA. If not then there's no real advantage to using one of these Tax-free schemes.

These I believe are the limits for 2013:

    Cash ISA
Up to £5,760 can be invested into a Cash ISA in 2013

    Stocks & Shares ISA
Up to £11,520 can be invested into a Stocks & Shares ISA in 2013”

“How about ram off out of this country where you have such a privileged life and use your saved money to live for less than a dollar a day in your own excrement in a third world slum?

I'm sure you would have nothing to moan about then!”

And one on the Council budget too.

Then, they just might be a tad more careful how they spend our money.”

“Avoiding tax in the UK is very easy. Put all you money into an off-shore account. For income set yourself up as a limited company and pay yourself a consultancy fee. Declare this as income against your business, and put down everything, car, house, clothes etc as business expenses bringing you below the level of having to pay tax on the income. Job done.

If you get a job make sure you are paid as an independent worker rather than as a contracted employee. This way you can put the money against the company you have formed and reduce your overall tax bill.

Of course if you don't have a lot of money in the first place, this is very difficult.”

“Most of those things are not allowable expense BHH, pretty much the only thing you can get away with as a Ltd Company is a bit of NI avoidance...unless you have got a really bent accountant and then if you get caught the taxman will come after you for the money you owe.

If you pay yourself a fee, the money is not yours, it belongs to the company, its not yours until your company pays it to you, at which point you get taxed on the income (and/or pay corporation tax on it from the company).

Its not until you get to be a large multinational that you can start pulling those types of wheezes that avoid you big chuncks of tax else the cost of setting up forign offices is more than your tax bill.”

“If you want to limit your gift to the undeserving and ungrateful government but also own and drive a car, you could do this by taking the following measures.

Exchange you car for one constructed before 1 January 1973. These are exempt from vehicle excise duty.

When filling up at the petrol station, you must pay either by cheque or cash for the appropriate amount (the pump price minus 60% tax) and hand over a certificate to the cashier, stating that the tax has been deducted. This protects the retailer and ensures they don't call the police. So for a £20 price registered at the pump you pay only £8.

I'm working on some more schemes of which I will post details when they've been tried and tested.

    Good luck!”

“Thanks for the handy hints, but I need more.

Each time I see some porcine minister defending their thieving Tory policies I'm made more determined to avoid contributing to their millionaire lifestyles. Every penny I'm forced to pay them increases the hatred I have for these swine life forms.

The devious creatures have introduced legislation in parliament so they can legally falsify unemployment figures. How slimy can these miscreants get?

Come on! More ideas to starve these pigs.”

Read the Guardian article for some insight:

Jobcentre was set targets for benefit sanctions..

"......The email reveals that along with other area team managers King had until 15 February to show an improvement, adding that if she does not do so she will be subject to a performance improvement plan, the first stage of disciplinary action.

She says if she is threatened with disciplinary action to improve performance, she will have to threaten her own staff in the same way. She writes: "Obviously if I am on a PIP [performance improvement plan] to improve my team's Stricter Benefit Regime referral rate I will not have a choice but to consider implementing PIPs for those individuals who are clearly not delivering SBR within the team........"”

“It's not a perfect world and more than likely there is some misuse of public monies within governments in most countries. However, in principle I don't mind paying taxes since I know they help fund public interests including national security (defence forces), police, schools, hospitals etc. Naturally, like most I also like to manage my tax contributions to the minimum legally required. One option I am looking into, which may also be available in the UK, is the novated leasing of a vehicle. A recent quote shows the acquisition and running costs are paid with a combination of pre and post tax dollars roughly around 55% and 45% respectively. So more than half the costs paid with no PAYE tax sounds pretty good to me.”
