“you have obviously not been in a situation this group are trying to alleviate. It isn't nannying adults as you put it, but providing much needed support to families that feel alientaed, isolated, alone ,trying to cope with financial pressures, child rearing. Sadly, nowadays parenting skills, budgeting, cooking are not being passed down from one geneartion to the next. mothers, grandmothers are all out at work or have no time to teach the younger generation. this project aims to fill that gap.”

“With hindsight, perhaps we should have posted the above alongside the "article" the GT published on Monday. Unfortunately, because the GT simply printed our press release, the story behind it was effectively 'killed.' (It's also a very old photograph, which was take when the scheme was under threat of closing down permanently – hence the rather miserable face).
As bendall correctly says, we aren't in the habit of "nannying" adults (and we are not a statutory agency or part of the Council). What we do do is to support parents who are finding parenting a struggle - for whatever reason - through a team of dedicated volunteers - all of whom give their time for free to help families under stress.
Support services for families are being cut nationwide. Oganisations like Home-Start, Barnardos, the NSPCC and many others are dedicated to helping families give their children the best possible start in life. Without our volunteers - we can't deliver that support - hence the volunteer recruitment drive.
If you want to know more about who we are and what we do, why not pop down to the resource centre on Monday? You don't have to sign up to be a volunteer - but you never know... you just might.

“I didn't say these families shouldn't receive help .. I said it wasn't the Councils job to provide it.
It should be left to all the other professional organisations you mention .. heaven knows they receive enough government funding to do it.
From whom does Home Start receive funding?”
“Sometimes it’s tough being a parent……Your help could make all the difference.
Home-Start North East Lincolnshire are currently recruiting home-visiting Volunteers to support families who are struggling to cope - before they hit crisis point.
Volunteers with relevant parenting skills from the local community are invited to an informal induction day on Monday 18 June at the Freeman Street Resource Centre. We are particularly interested in hearing from Grandparents, those with English as a second language and any Dads who may wish to share their skills and experiences with others.
We are also developing alternative volunteering opportunities to expand the service we provide to families, including group working, training and mentoring roles. If you would like to find out more, please come along to our informal induction day on 18 June at Freeman Street Resource Centre, Kent Street, Grimsby.
