“Totally agree with you, cyclist's are the most ignorant and selfish of all road users, as soon as they don there power ranger suits they think they rule the roads which we car/motorcycle drivers pay for. Next on my list are horse riders.
Question, if I race against someone on my motorcycle I would be prosecuted and rightly so, how come then can the local cycle clubs hold races on public roads? Before any cyclists/power rangers try to defend it by saying they travel at lower speeds please consider this, racing is racing and as soon as your head is down and your lycra clad backside is up then you are in race mode and not consentrating on the road and other road users so dont moan at me if you happen to lose a battle with my land rover.
Cyclists should stay on cycle tracks (which they never use when they are there) and horses should stay in fields.”

“Legally there's no law against it. The Highway Code even says to expect it.

I would even go so far to say this. What's the problem? Just overtake on the other side of the road when its safe. If there's traffic coming the other way some of the older clubs (not so much these days) used to teach members to "cork" or spread out two abreast to stop silly and dangerous overtakes.

And no, its only dangerous if you make it such.”

“QPR I agree with you a little to be honest. But what I'm trying to get at is these two cyclists where having a full blown conversation by the looks of it, therefore not paying attention to the road and road users in my opinion. That's what I'm deeming as dangerous.”

“I'm a regular motorist and cyclist and I totally agree with Gry88. I think it's unacceptable to cycle two abreast on all but the quietest of country roads. Don't get me started on cyclists who don't use lights/high-viz gear at night either. Do they not realise that it is virtually impossible to see them behind you in your mirrors, especially if it's raining as well?”

“ok oilworker1 why should horses stay in fields you silly man they where the first form of transport without them where would progress have got, you have your motorbike and your landrover good for you so why is it that you can have your pleasures but no one else can, as that is how that read to me, i have an electric moped which i ride to and from my horse every day i am clearly seen yet you drivers nearly hit me too yet i stay as near to the curb as i possibly can how much room do you drivers really need try reading your highway code book and learn it, you will find it enlightening.”

“Dennis, I am entitled to my opinion and do not appreciate been called a silly man. Yes horses where the original form of transport but that was before there where roads you silly woman.
Yes I have a motorcycle and a landrover but do not put other road users in danger with either.
Horses the same as cyclists and your eco transport are unpredictable and also travel many times slower then motor vehicles. I doubt many people would disagree that cycle, horse and electric scotter riders are the most selfish and ignorant of all road users.
Please try and remember what roads are built for, MOTOR VEHICLES!”

“cyclists are like car drivers. There are some good and some bad.

I don't see them riding two abreast as a problem as long as they have the brains to go to single file if they are causing a problem and let the traffic flow.

Horse riders particularly the ones from stables like one near toll bar should make more effort to clean the mess up of the footpath than they do. But other than that let them get on with it.”

“I think you're right TheOracle. You don't notice most cyclists because they're riding correctly. One thing that some do that does annoy me though is cycle on the main carriageway of a road for no apparent reason when there's a cycle lane right next to it.”

"cyclist's are the most ignorant and selfish of all road users"

"so dont moan at me if you happen to lose a battle with my land rover."

Comment 2 completely illigitimises comment 1 because in itself it is ignorant. If you hit a cyclist you would cry yourself to sleep at night but right now it's all "I own the road, I have a big car so I don't care and I won't get hurt and you will and blah blah."

I'm a car driver and a cyclist. Nobody tries to intimidate me in the street, nor when I'm driving my car yet the moment I get on my bike... everyone is a big tough guy who wants to scare me and at lengths that would shock most. Being an obnoxious cycle hating silver back isn't a prerequisite of owning a large car you know, I drive a Volvo and I get on with cyclists just fine.”

“Unfortunately Cyclists seem to think that they are visible if they are able to see things.

Alas this is far from the case.

I often see obviously regular cyclists with all the gear, tootling along on their bikes with no lights when it is either dawn or dusk. Yes, THEY are more than able to see where they are going, what they fail to realise is that they are invisible, as they blend into the grey of the road. Try pointing it out to them as you pass!! It is surely in their interest to make themselves beacons when they are out.

Why do they need to be so covert?

Do they not care for their lives?

    As for cycle lanes.

    Dig them up.

The majority of cyclists don't bother to use them when there is a lovely carriageway to ride on!
The more lycra the cyclist wears the less likely they are to use the cycle lane.
I think that they think the cycle lanes are for kids, and they are macho Cyclists with a right to clog up the roads.
When I refer to cycle lanes I mean the purpose built lanes that are not just gutters along the side of the road. like the one along the road up to Toll Bar and along the A46.”

“The ones that annoy me are the arrogant guys, cycling two a breast home from work chatting to each other.
They know full well there's a queue of traffic building up behind them but have that tractor driver mentality "because I'm going slow everybody else can too".
These days of busy traffic it should be made law that adult cyclists travel single file and children under a certain age should ride in front of them when being accompanied by adults.”

    “Oilworker 1.
You will find that lycra clad cyclists concentrate on the road more than anybody else.
You learn to read the road better too having to avoid potholes, and any other debris on the road. Any cyclist who just gets his head down will soon become a cropper ! I admit to avoiding cycle paths, if you are zipping along at 20 mph plus on a cycle you become a danger to walkers etc on these paths. Many cycle lanes are poorly maintained too and with road bikes having such narrow wheels it is easy to sustain damage.
Local races and time trials are done in the evening to avoid the heavy traffic, so unlikely to hold anybody up, many of these cyclists catch up the cars anyway !”

“Where there is a road based cycle path it should be mandatory for cyclists to use them. However, as Hallcross says, you do not want a Lycra clad speed demon hurtling towards you as you stroll next to a pavement based cycle lane!”
