Last-ditch attempt to save former Humber Ferry Lincoln Castle
D-DAY has arrived for the PS Lincoln Castle.
Today, campaigners will make a final attempt to save the historic Grimsby vessel from the scrap heap.

The Lincoln Castle Preservation Society has now raised more than £100,000 to buy the boat – which had an original asking price of £20,000 – but owner Colin Johnson has so far rejected all offers.
The boat is due to be scrapped on Friday and so chairman of the group Stephen Sharpe will today make a last-ditch attempt to persuade Mr Johnson to change his mind.
But even if he fails in his efforts to buy the vessel, Mr Sharpe insists the group will save the boat "one way or another" – even if that means buying individual parts from the scrap heap and rebuilding it piece by piece.

“To all you 'Scrap it's', your atitude is precisely why the Town looks like a precinct, one of empty shops, characterless.
Old Architecture gone forever, knock them down, build a box and call it progress.
Take a look at other preserved towns, ones that didn't become victim to the wreckers ball in the 70's.
Historic towns saved look beautiful, all because people didn't want what you, 'The Scrap it's' wanted, a stupid bunch of let make a change (even though we don't know or care what we're doing).
I refurbished the 'SS Tattershall Castle' the one that's moored on the Thames, still there and refurbished again after a fire. A wonderfully built boat, still used and will be for many years to come.
For all the ones who want to save the Ship, good luck to you, if the owner doesn't sell her, he is just as bad as you 'Scrap it's'.
To actual realise what is sitting in the dock takes some thinking. The thinking of the workmanship put into this ship.
You won't see another built like this, available to save for what it is, an experience you can't manufacture for young ones to see in a Museum.
The engine itself is a fantastic example of engineering of it's time, the design of which to reproduce would cost millions, in fact to have a vessel, of this size built to just sit there for all to enjoy would cost more than a few million to reproduce.
I really hope the ship is saved for the future of the people of know what it is.
To rubbish it is completely foolish, even when it will be saved I don't think it will be appreciated by the amount of people who would benifit from it.
After all, the mention of Grimsby to out of towners often brings no good remarks.
Save 'The Lincoln Castle' it'll be at least one of better judgement to come out of Grimsby.
Good Luck.”

“i hope the council are going to get that old piece of s#*t sunken wooden boat in the same dock dismantled & took away..... otherwise theyre contradicting themselves a bit here. the castle is a historic artefact, its wrong to do this to it, it should be dry docked & restored. colin johnson is a heartless coward who cant even face his bad decision getting his brother to do all the dirty work for him. this shouldnt be allowed. not to a nice unique boat like this.”

“I see lumps of metal have started to appear on www.castoff.net even the anchor. Has nobody any feeling - this is heartless - even the anchor has been put up for auction.”

“This is a strange saga. It would be interesting to hear from the owners why they have been unprepared to sell.”

“And she liked the Branston pickle that came with it. The only problem was she also ate mine, and I was forced to buy her several jars in Hull. Guess who carried them? Lucky me.....”

“I beg to differ,Rusty. Fair enough,it was only a cheese and onion butty with a few pickled onions to make sure. Wow ! The cheese was extremely strong, and as for the onions.....The American lady I was with was very impressed. Good job she had the same as me though. I doubt our trip would have been quite soooo romantic otherwise.”
