I AM an angry resident of the East Marsh.

I find my local garage in Albion Street has been granted a drinks licence to sell alcohol. Several years ago the residents got it stopped, however, this time a new owner has acquired one.

What does this do for drink driving and safety of staff?

The people round here have enough outlets for drink.

I understand they are able to sell from 6am to 11pm.

The owner of the garage no longer has a Pay Point outlet which is of use to residents, but he can sell booze!

Mr J Capps, Thesiger House, Grimsby.

“I can't understand why all shops aren't allowed to sell booze.

What if you're desperate for your fix, and you're in the chemist shop? Or you're in B&Q buying a tin of paint (although I suppose in that case you could always buy a bottle of vintage methylated spirits).

No, everybody's right so far, there's just not enough places selling booze.”

“Of course everyone who buys drink from a garage is going to drink it whilst driving. Jeez get a grip fella...”

I dread to think what could happen to someone who buys a copy of Mayfair from a petrol station....”

“There is another way of looking at it. Eg. Just finished a nightshift, it's 6.30am. Stop for fuel, pick a few tins up or a bottle to help you get your head down in the day. Likewise, shift finished at 10pm, all the offys are closed. Those of us used to working shifts would often have a drink at hours others couldn't understand.”

    “Mr Capps,

    I agree wholeheartedly!

Even worse is some of these garages sell DVDs - surely everyone can see how dangerous it is to watch a film while driving, what madness has taken hold of the government.

I even saw some selling BBQ's, surely even the most health and safety clueless can see that open air cooking whilst using a car is insanely dangerous and only the morally bankrupt would encourage it merely to make a few quid extra on their forecourt profits!!!!

    When are we marching??”

“Most garages these days make up their profit margin from the shop. It has nothing to do with drink driving. Most customers purchasing such goods will be on foot.”

“Mr Capps have you not noticed that the car parks at the supermarkets are full of cars. These same supermarkets sell booze.
    What's your point?”
