Is it a 'fare' rule for taxi drivers?
SHOULD taxi and hackney carriage drivers be allowed to show their support for England by wearing football shirts during the World Cup?
Today we are asking for your views after it was revealed a new dress code for drivers – which comes into force on April 1 – would see any driver donning a football shirt risking their licence.

Mr O’Neill is upset after drivers have been banned from wearing England football shirts during the World Cup
As reported, the dress code was approved last year by North East Lincolnshire Council's Community Protection Committee, after discussions with a working group.
Chairman of the Hackney Carriage Association, Dave Atkin said: "There was a working group set up to discuss various aspects of the job, including qualifications, ages of cabs and dress code.
"Rather than introduce a uniform, it was decided to exclude clothing such as flip flops, ripped jeans and sports wear. We are trying to improve the image of taxi drivers and get rid of the image of drivers in string vests."
However, drivers are unhappy they will not be able to show they are backing the England squad.
Simon O'Neill, 38, said: "I think it is a disgrace. We are supposed to be self-employed. We should be allowed to wear what we want so long as we are clean and tidy.
"We should be allowed to wear the strip with the World Cup coming up."

“Kim,
It was your pathetic bleating and 'hog swill' that bored me sooooo much that I cried.
Your 11-40 post did not make it clear that you are a PH driver, and as most taxi drivers that post on here are moaning/whinging HC drivers, I mistakenly thought you would be one of them, again.
As to your school jibe, I am well over 55 years of school leaving age. I have more to do with my time than sit at my computer all day, that's why I was 'a bit late' on posting.
Just shows anybody can jump to the wrong conclusion, doesn't it Kim?
Do PH drivers have to abide by the same rules and conditions as HC drivers in regards to the dress code? If yes, then comply with it and do it, or stay at home and moan, wearing a football shirt. If they are not, then whats the PH drivers problem?
I think that ALL taxi drivers should be smartly dressed at ALL TIMES while 'on duty,' (note, I don't say "work," the word that taxi drivers hate. :-) )
If you "can't stand the heat. etc".. you know the rest. :-)
Try another job, IF (??) you're capable and stop moaning. There must be something else you can do? well, maybe .... :-(
BTW, I use taxi's every week-end.”

“Hey, "Warrior",
See, we dont spend ALL day havin a moan.... sometimes we manage to make people laugh so much it makes them cry!!
Judging by the time of yr latest post (in particular yr dig @ me), I can only assume you havent long been in from school?
Your comments are both ignorant and juvenile. Do you even know what you are talking about?
I am not a HC (rank) driver dear, so I did not agree to ANYONE making agreements as to my clothing thank you.
I am a Private Hire Driver, and myself and over 200 PH drivers speak up for OURSELVES, thru our own association, North East Lincs Private Hire Assoc (NELPHA).
The point we are trying to make is clear: WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES CLOTHING MAKE TO INDIVIDUAL ABILITY TO PERFORM THE TASK @ HAND?
What the hell next? Macdonalds style shirts with stars on the pockets....the more stars the better taxi driver?
Well,as everyone, including you, is entitled to their opinion, & we have more important issues to be concerned with, Im not prepared to get into a playground argument with you. One day, for whatever reason, you may NEED the services of a taxi/minicab, only then might you appreciate whats happening beyond those blinkers and get the bigger picture?
Have a nice day :0)”

“Kim,
What a load of hogs swill you have come up with. I laughed some much, it brought tears to my eyes.
As I've said earlier, moan, moan, moan.
If you or any driver does not like the conditions/rules (as AGREED to by YOUR representatives) then pack the job in and get another job.”

“Woahhhhhhhhh!!
Hang on just a minute here. Taxi drivers are this, taxi drivers are that....and only GOOD guys when you desperately want/need one????
Who mentioned driving skills? The licensing authority license US as drivers and our vehicles as roadworthy transportation means NOT how we drive the vehicle. (although in some parts SOME of the comments are partly true i.e speeding, ambler gambling etc.)
The issue here isnt any of the above, its about being self employed (paying for the priveledge to be so) and being told what we can or cannot wear. Someone show us where in the conditions of our licenses does it mention attire?
Whilst I agree there are a few, and i DO mean only a few taxi/minicab drivers (whatever the terminology THIS week?) could do more to make sure they and their cars are cleaner , the majority of us are continually doing so.
How does what we wear improve our ability to perform as drivers? Reading some of these comments posted on here shows that some of you havent got a clue what you are talking about, with regard to us, our profession or the whole issue. Some of us have been doing the job for 15, 20 years, and not because theres no other work we find suitable, but because its what we actually ENJOY doing!!! Perhaps you guys should familiarise yourselves with social networking pages if you just want to spout off without any real insight to what you THINK you know about this?
The recently formed Working Party Public Protection Committee was, we thought, to help improve the current fiasco that has been created by the NELCs seriously over zealous issuing of licenses for Private Hire & Hackney Carriage drivers.
So far, there just appears to be hinderance, hurdles and not a deal of help. How many of the Committee members have actually even BEEN in a taxi, let alone drive one for a living??
This whole thing has got way out of hand.....will stopping the "rank cars" wearing their footie shirts create more parking spaces on the ranks?
Will doing the same with Private Hire drivers create more off street parking and bring more work?
Plain & simple answer ~ NO!!!
Driver's attire is so unbelievably petty when the town is saturated with honest, decent men & women cabbies trying to earn a living.
The NELC Hackney Carriage office and ALL its sub~departments should look at ways to IMPROVE the situation created by what can only be described as GREED on their part.
Every single one of this borough's licensed drivers pays to be self employed & in Mr Fenty's words not that long ago, "everyone has a right to earn a living".....its just a shame that as soon as you are paying to do so, you dont seem to count anymore in that word...."EVERYONE".
So, whilst the majority out there totally understand where the cabbies' argument is coming from, and are loyal and understand that we are just trying to earn a crust & provide for our families, there will always be the 'know all know nothings' who feel its their duty to kick us while we are down, but just remember....What goes around comes around.!!
Oh, and by the way...personally Im not even a footie fan!!!!!”
