Where are the fastest and slowest broadband speeds in North East Lincolnshire?
THE speed of broadband connections in parts of North East Lincolnshire is an issue which continues to be a source of much frustration for many residents and businesses in the area.
Much of the concern stems from the huge differences in speed reported by internet users in the region with some feeling they are being left out whilst others enjoy much faster connections.

Many broadband users in North East Lincolnshire are frustrated by the slow speeds being offered by their internet service providers.
An Ofcom report released in 2011 stated that North East Lincolnshire had, on average, the 11th fastest connection speeds in the UK out of the 200 regions surveyed.
However, a poll conducted on this website recently found that only 43 per cent of internet users in the area are happy with the speed of their connections.

Campaigners have argued that, though very high speeds can be achieved in parts of urbanised areas such as Grimsby and Immingham, other communities still have to settle for connections which fall below the Government’s 2 Mb/s minimum target.
To determine the extent of the enormous variations in broadband speeds reported in North East Lincolnshire, we are conducting a simple survey to find where the hot spots and ‘not’ spots are.
To take part in the survey all you need to do is check your broadband speed using the test below*.
*Speed displayed may be slower than expected due to congestion. You can also try speed tests from other sites including www.broadbandspeedchecker.co.uk and www.speedtest.net.
Once you have done this, simply select the checkbox next to the download speed you are getting on the form along with your postcode.
Please also select which ward you are connecting from if you know as well as your internet service provider.
In the coming weeks, this data will be used to create a broadband map of North East Lincolnshire, providing an at-a-glance indication of where slow internet connections remain a problem in our area.

“My broadband provider is Virgin and my speed is UP to 20mb. This means it is part optic fibre and part copper cable.Locally the BT lines have a much longer copper cable content but I understand this is to change in the future. Generally I can hope for 6-10 mb. This only applies when it is not a busy time. Like 03.00. During busy times, and these times follow a distinct pattern, the speed can DROP to 1-2kb. Don't let your provider tell you that these speed tests are a waste of time, they are not. Heavy traffic across the bandwidth can and does affect the dispatch and retrieval of of the package you send off and receive back on one of the many speed tests. As I do very little downloading I don't really need the speed constantly but I would be a happier Johnny if the speed was a little more consistent.”

I have just taken a speedtest.net test and got a reading of 14.31Mb, that is with both kids on their laptops.
