" He was ill. He contacted us on Saturday morning to say that he was ill. We were obviously disappointed but we're safe in the knowledge that we had someone like Joe Colbeck to call on and that's the idea of bringing in the squad that we've got."

" I'm sure there will be a couple of players that were disappointed. Ross would have been disappointed not to start but Brodes has scored again. Cooky wasn't at his best on Saturday but you can't play brilliantly every week. When someone's not doing it, someone else will come in and be the one to carry the torch. There were a few heavy legs out there on Saturday but we've got enough to be able to change things in certain areas and keep things going."

On the Mariners' performance...

" We did what we had to do until the 90th minute. You can't play flat-out for the full game. They came with a system that outnumbered us in midfield so it doesn't always look like you're dominating the game but we're not prepared to sacrifice the wide players because that's where the goals come from. We did enough to win the game and that's the main thing."

On Derek Niven...

" Del does things right, works hard and does a job for us. Yes he sometimes gives it away but he wins it back for us as well. We can't play everyone but Del came in and did a good job for us."
