The hard work starts now as Lawrence Baird targets Brazil
LAWRENCE Baird begins a new chapter in his athletics career this month when he turns 35 – and officially joins the veteran ranks.
The 400m specialist has been a consistent performer in the senior ranks for well over a decade – and was also a top junior when he was part of Cleethorpes Athletics Club's track team.

Baird has a busy schedule ahead, which culminates in the World Masters in Brazil next October.
He explained: "It is a case of hard training through the winter with plenty of strength work and endurance.
"I will also keep an eye on speed – you cannot neglect it at any time of the year.
"The plan is to do the North of England Indoors in January at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield.
"Then in March it is the British Masters, followed by the Europeans in San Sebastian later that month".
Baird faces the tricky challenge of peaking twice next year – once in March and then again –if he qualifies – for October's World Masters.
But the PE teacher at Birkbeck College, North Somercotes, believes he has the experience and know-how to plan his training accordingly.
