“The waiter placed two heaped up plates
Of most delicious fayre
Before two ancient customers
A doddery old pair.

The man picked up his knife and fork
And tucked in with great zeal,
A look of pleasure on his face
As he wolfed down his meal.

The woman though, was something else.
No morsel passed her lips.
She simply sat, as in a trance,
With her hands upon her hips.

The waiter looked across at her
And felt a great unease,
For after all, it was his job
The customer to please.

He approached her and addressed her
In a voice both clear and calm.
"I see you haven't touched you food
Is there a problem, Ma'am?"

"Today it is," The lady said,
"Our Golden Wedding day.
The simple secret of success
Is sharing all the way.

We share our pain. We share our joy.
We share our work and play.
We used money from our joint account
To pay for this soiree.

We even plan to share a grave
When finally laid beneath.
