TOP show jumper Joe Whitaker is set to open a new cafeteria and stable block extension, as well as holding a show jumping clinic, at the Caistor Equestrian Centre this weekend.

The centre, opened two years ago, is an ambitious project and has proved popular with adults and children alike.

Now, the major extension is widening its horizons even further.

From a famous show jumping family, Whitaker, 21, is ranked seventh in the UK's top young riders list and was a member of the Junior European Championship team that won the bronze medal in 2006.

As well as competing, he spends much of his time coaching other riders and is a registered coach for the World Equestrian Coaching organisation.

The Equestrian Centre already encompasses all the facets required for equestrian training and competitions.

Facilities include a competition-sized indoor arena, as well as a floodlit outdoor show jumping arena.

There is an extensive cross country course which includes a water complex available to hire all the year round.

The friendly riding school, livery yard and competition centre is designed to offer quality equestrian activities to all levels and abilities, from complete beginners to more advanced riders. The extension incorporates 27 more stables.

For the opening day on Saturday, other attractions include a carriage-driving demonstration by the British Driving Society and a dressage demonstration.

At 5pm, there will be a 1.10m show jumping competition.

Back-up attractions include a bucking bronco, face painting, fancy dress competition, dog trials, and a drill ride by Caistor Equestrian Centre pupils. Something for all the family is promised in a packed programme.

The new cafe, built as part of the extension, will specialise in local Lincolnshire produce.
