A MOTORIST knocked over a five-month-old baby in a pushchair while the mother was waiting to cross the road in Grimsby.

Police are looking for witnesses who saw the silver car knock over the pushchair yesterday after 7.55pm at Walmsgate, near Sutcliffe Avenue.

The car failed to stop and it headed towards Laceby Road. The ambulance attended and the baby appeared uninjured.

“and dormantfan, regardless of culture it is their responsibility to look after their children!!! there are enough speed bumps around that area anyway, why waste more money on the area?!”

“i know this isnt related, but it halfed scared me to death the other day down cromwell road, when a mother looking to cross the busy road, pushchair and baby in it, she pushes the it out in front of her to see if theres any cars coming,! we nearly hit her and had to brake hard as did others i heard beeping there horns, and this is not the first time i have seen mothers crossing the road putting the pushchairs with kid in, out in the road first before themselves to check if traffic is coming, it is dangerous when are they going to learn if crossin a road with a push chair, the parent go and step forward first checking that its safe and then crosee with the push chair...i know its a pushchair, and u are inevitabley behind it pushing it, but use common sense when crossin, and dont push the pushchair out first like i have seeen many do, its dangerous,....rant over, person in car should of stopped, hope mother and kid is okay!!”

“has any of you actually stopped and thought for a moment about this before putting the mother in the pillory and serving up Grimsbys own brand of vitriol on her?
    No, I thought not.
Perhaps the reason for her having baby out was she was taking it for a walk so it would fall asleep? (had both mine out in the car/ buggy at all hours in attempts to get them to sleep).....does that make me a bad parent?
She could have been taking little un home, having just picked it up from a relative having just finished a shift at Asda's or something (yes, some folk in GY do work)
The reasons why the lady had HER child out at that time are nothing whatsoever to do with this, just a shame so many on here dont realise that and automatically jump on their moral high horses and jump to judgemental conclusions.
So what if she had her child out at that time, does that make it OK for someone to hit her childs buggy and drive off?......no, thought not.
I do not care what anyone says, if you're driving at 30mph (or possibly 20mph on the Nunny) even if its dark there is no way on gods green earth you dont know you've hit something, theres things called street lights, thy're there to illuminate the footpaths and roads so car drivers can see any potential hazards and react accordingly. This driver hit a childs buggy and drove off, shouldn't we just be glad we're not reading about a fatality.
Hope the driver gets nabbed and the book thrown at him!”

“I do not know the details of this case, however it is now a common culture for girls to be in charge of a pram whilst using their mobile phone. Surely the answer is to put more onus on the car drivers and introduce more speed bumps and a much more restrictive speed limit on housing estates?”

“The baby was un-injured, so it couldn't have been a firm hit, which makes me think maybe the driver doesn't know he's hit the pushchair. The roads aren't great either. Everyone has to be aware as to what they are doing.”

“It's true what some are saying, as a driver myself, and a mother to young baby, I see it both sides. Yes there are plenty of idiot women out there that push their pushchairs into the road before themselves to see if its safe to cross, and then the pushchair can be hard to see from a driver's point of view sometimes being below bonnet height, I feel if this particular driver had mounted the kerb, then this information would be in the report. This mother ought to count HERSELF lucky that her baby was not injured and take better care next time :-(”
