WENDY Girdham, of Laceby, writes: “My late husband’s uncle, Ron Harvey, was huntsman to one of the Lord Yarboroughs.

“He lived in a huge house in Brocklesby village called ‘The Kennels’. Obviously the hounds were behind the house and if they made a noise, he used to call down through the intercom for them to be quiet.

“He knew all the dogs by their tails. He took us to see them when they were whelping, with a warning not to leave his side.

“I had many discussions with him on the rights and wrongs of fox hunting. He was usually right.

“He was in the Armed Forces and was a prisoner of war in both Germany and Japan. I have a photograph somewhere of him and his fellow officers in a German concentration camp.

“He never did speak of those times.”
