LUXURY holiday cabins are opening on North East Lincolnshire's doorstep, just in time to kick start the holiday season.

The owners of Willow Lakes in Ashby Cum Fenby, have recently been granted planning permission for another two, five-star cabins to be built on the site – adding to the three cabins already built and nearing completion.

But John Collis and Michael Quickfall, who bought the land four years ago, are not stopping there and have submitted a new planning application to North East Lincolnshire Council for a further nine cabins to be built later in the year.

The news has delighted nearby businesses who say anything to attract more people to the area has to be a good thing.

Glenda Mason, owner of McMillers Sweets Emporium at Waltham Windmill, said: "We get a lot of walkers around here and some have asked us in the past if we can recommend places to stay.

"We don't have many places nearby and if we suggest Cleethorpes it sends tourists away from us.

"Hearing that more holiday cabins are planned for Willow Lakes is great news. The more people visiting round here the better for everyone."

Each luxury lodge is furnished to a high standard and has uninterrupted views over the well-stocked lake.

Balconies all have facilities for outside dining, a hot tub and fishing will be reserved exclusively for lodge guests.

In addition to the extra two cabins now confirmed, a tea room and ice cream parlour was also given planning permission on the site – talks are on-going as to whether the tea rooms will be run in-house or whether they will be leased to an entrepreneur with catering experience.

Developers say there will be plenty of off-road parking and the site will gain attraction from the passing traffic on Barton Street.

The cabins will cost between £520 and £995 a week depending on the number of beds needed and the time of the year.

North East Lincolnshire Councillor Mick Burnett, portfolio holder for tourism and culture, said: "I welcome any accommodation that will be attractive to tourists.

"However, this is all down to the planning committee to decide whether the nine extra cabins should go ahead.

"Five-star facilities are just what North East Lincolnshire requires and they will attract people who come to stay for either a few days or a week at a time.

"Ashby Cum Fenby is only a 20 minutes ride from Cleethorpes and is also situated next to the Lincolnshire Wolds.

"We have a lot to boast about and this is all good news."

A decision on the planning application is expected by Tuesday, April 11.
