Plea made to raise funds needed to restore St Peter's Church in Cleethorpes
A PASSIONATE plea has been made to raise the £150,000 needed to restore an iconic Cleethorpes church.
The Reverend Paul Hunter has made the appeal to preserve St Peter's Church, in St Peter's Avenue, for future generations.
He and the church warden spoke to members of the Cleethorpes South Forward Forum and asked them for support in fundraising events.
As reported, he and other members of the congregation are trying to secure the large sum of money from various organisations to repair the floor.
They also want to install glass doors, develop the stage, enable wheelchair access and build a refreshment unit as part of wider plans to keep the church at the heart of the community.
At the meeting, he said: "St Peter's has a serious problem with the building. The whole floor needs replacing and it will cost £150,000 which we need to raise by next year.
"We cannot find this on our own so we need to ask the community for help."
The church plan to hold fundraising events to raise the cash needed and have sought help from the Lincolnshire Diocese.
