BREAKING NEWS: Regional Assembly to fold

THE Yorkshire and Humber Assembly will cease to exist on March 31 next year, it has been revealed.

Yorkshire's regional assembly, which is responsible for regional planning and social, environmental and economic policy, will close in six months after officials agreed to fold it into the regional development agency a year before a Government deadline.

It, along with assemblies in all other English regions, has been facing the axe since the Government's Sub National Review (SNR) in July last year concluded regional government should be streamlined by abolishing assemblies in April 2010.
