Bottoms Up shoots towards its target

Monday, July 06, 2009, 09:00

THE Bottoms Up Appeal target of £150,000 is in sight.

A charity shooting match led by consultant Henry Pearson helped boost the appeal to aid sufferers recovering from bowel surgery.

Organisers of the Telegraph-backed appeal – in aid of the colorectal unit at Grimsby’s Diana, Princess Of Wales Hospital – said it was on target for success in September.

The appeal aims to equip six high-dependency beds for patients recovering from major bowel surgery.

Before taking aim in the clay pigeon shooting match at Nettleton Lodge, chairman Ian Phillips said: “I am confident, by September, we will reach the target. But that depends on people continuing their support for the events coming up.”

He urged supporters to attend a week-long art exhibition at Grimsby Institute on July 20 and a hog roast at Hall Farm in Ashby-cum-Fenby on August 9.

One lucky appeal supporter could walk away with the keys to a Toyota iQ, donated by the John Roe Toyota dealership, in a raffle.

Tickets cost £5 each and are available from the dealership and appeal organisers.

Mr Pearson said of the shoot: “We are very pleased with the support. Everyone has been fantastic.”

Shooter Shaun Beales, 28, of Caistor, said: “It all helps at the end of the day. We will have a bit of fun and I will hit some if I can.”

Prizes, sponsored by Fabrique Specialist Glazing, Grimsby, were awarded for first to fourth places for men, with a trophy for the winning female.

Organisers thanked Ivor Appleton, shooting ground staff Ben and Will Jacob, Richard Mann Signs and Robert Drury, of Percy Sharp’s butchers, for supplying the sausages.

Tickets for the hog roast cost £12 and include a cabaret. For tickets, call Ivor Appleton on 07885 251621 or Steve Hilldrith on 07802 229253.
