Chairman returns to help boost fund

Monday, November 02, 2009, 06:30

THE first ever chairman of the Artie White Foundation has returned to the role he vacated four years ago – and immediately targeted helping cerebral palsy sufferer Jake Storr.

Barry Meadows has been re-elected as the chairman of the Grimsby-based charity to replace Pete Jolly, who resigned last week, as reported.

Mr Meadows was one of the founder members of the foundation – alongside Mr Jolly – when it was set up over 13 years ago.

Another founder member, former Grimsby Town footballer Dave Boylen, has also returned as a co-ordinator of the charity which helps the less fortunate.

The foundation was set up in 1997 in memory of former local sporting stalwart Artie White, who died from a congenital heart defect.

As well as the departure of Mr Jolly, other members of the committee also resigned.

But the committee is back up to 12 members after it was joined by Artie's daughter Rebecca and his nephew Jamie Roberts.

Former secretary Jenny Smith has also returned.

To re-launch the foundation – which has raised more than £350,000 for worthy causes since its inception – £1,000 has been donated to eight-year-old Jake Storr.

As reported, an appeal has been launched to help raise £40,000 which would fund an operation that could see eight-year-old Jake walk unaided – something he is currently not able to do.

Thumbs up for a new future as coordinator Dave Boylen and chairman Barry Meadows re-join the committee.
