Wayne devours a scorpion!

"I'M an export clerk – and I'm dressed as Borat – now, get me out of here!"

Wayne Hopper (21) tucked into a banquet of bugs to raise cash for Comic Relief – and donned a mankini to add to the effect.

In a scene reminiscent of a bushtucker trial on ITV's I'm A Celebrity – Get Me Out of Here!, the NTEX export clerk ate crickets, giant waterbugs, toasted silkworm pupae, bamboo worms and even a scorpion.

Wowing workmates at the Stallingborough freight company, Wayne said: "I was really nervous all day about dressing up, but the bugs were far worse.

"It was all worth it though, as we raised a lot of money for charity.

"The scorpion was really crunchy, but the crickets were horrible and the texture of the bamboo worms made me retch."

Wayne and his colleagues managed to raise over £800 for Comic Relief and he was praised by his friends.

Donna Barnett, who organised the donations and the bugs, said: "We're really proud of him, as he is the only one of us brave enough to do it.

"It is fantastic to raise so much money for charity and it was great fun having him dressed as Borat. He's taken some stick, but he was the only one who could have eaten those bugs."

The company employees got to vote on all the ideas put forward and then company bosses decided on what they would do to raise money.

The idea for Wayne to dress up as Borat and eat bugs won hands down, but Wayne isn't keen to do it again.

Speaking after his challenge yesterday, Wayne said: "I have to dress up like this all day tomorrow for Red Nose Day as well, but at least I won't have to eat anymore bugs.

"It was a fun day despite it, but I'd like to do something different next time."

Comic Relief funds projects across the UK, Africa and throughout some of the world's poorest countries – and hundreds of Grimsby residents will be doing their bit to help today.
