Estate accounts for very few crimes

Saturday, October 25, 2008, 09:00

STATISTICS show that crime on the Nunsthorpe Estate accounts for only a small percentage of incidents in North East Lincolnshire.

The most up-to-date statistics show that, for violent crime, between just three and six per cent of incidents happened on the estate.

In the month of September, there were 30 calls reporting anti-social behaviour on Nunsthorpe, out of a total of 690 for North East Lincolnshire.

And between October 1, 2007 and September 30, 2008:

There were nine offences of grievous bodily harm – 6.3 per cent of all cases in the borough.

There were 71 offences of less serious violence – 3.56 per cent of cases.

There were 22 offences of common assault – 3.4 per cent of cases.

There were 72 offences of assaults causing actual bodily harm – 3.6 per cent of cases.

Insp Tracy Bradley, who heads up neighbourhood policing in the area, said: "We have had good support from the community in relation to coming forward and providing information or to report things.

"Historically, the Nunsthorpe estate has had a reputation for crime and disorder, but that is changing.

"There are a lot of good people on the Nunsthorpe, but there is a minority who continue to give it a bad name.

"But there is a really good community spirit – probably one of the best in North East Lincolnshire – and there are a lot of agencies and community activists working to make it a better place."

The Telegraph was unable to break down crime statistics for other areas of North East Lincolnshire.
