Tributes paid to "thoughtful, hard-working" LOR contractor Robert Greenacre

"HIS thoughtful, hard-working, placid soul will never be forgotten".

These words come today from the heartbroken parents of only son Robert Greenacre, who died in the explosion and fire at the Total Lindsey Oil Refinery on Tuesday.

As investigations continue into the cause of the incident, his family have spoken of a their grief at the loss of the 'lovely' and 'kind' 24-year-old – an experienced pipe fitter, who was working for contractors Doosan Babcock at the time of his death. Robert had worked at the Total plant for the past five years as a contractor.

Health and Safety Executive officials remain on site and no further information has been released as to the cause of the explosion and fire. It has been revealed however that MP for the area, Martin Vickers, will visit the Humber Bank plant tomorrow to seek further safety assurances for local residents.

Yesterday there were also unconfirmed reports that some contractors had left the site due to health and safety fears, but these claims have not been confirmed – others said they were not at work yesterday as a tribute to Robert. He had been working at the scene of the incident with two other men – they received injuries and one was treated in hospital, while other staff were evacuated. Concerns for Robert mounted when he failed to answer a safety roll call and his family were informed throughout the day, his body was recovered and confirmation of his death came late on Tuesday night.

His mum Lou, of Grimsby spoke of the terrible shock and the grief of family members, including his fiancee, teacher Katy Edson, 21, who he had become engaged to at Christmas. They had just bought their first house together.
