Grimsby falls silent as fallen heroes return

Monday, November 23, 2009, 06:30

AT 1pm on Saturday, Grimsby stood still for two minutes to remember fallen heroes Guardsman Jimmy Major and Sgt Matthew Telford as their bodies were driven through the town centre, pausing outside the Town Hall for a salute.

Thousands of people turned out to pay their respects, and shoppers in Freshney Place and Tesco also stopped to remember the two soldiers, shot dead by a rogue Afghan policeman earlier this month along with three others.

See today's Grimsby Telegraph for comments from family, friends, and those just simply wanted to be there to show they care, and more pictures from the emotional event.

POIGNANT: Crowds line the streets as the coffins of the two soldiers stop at Grimsby Town Hall.
