BOUNCE BACK: Help to collect benefits you are entitled to

Saturday, July 04, 2009, 09:00

WILL you Bounce Back and be Quids In?

As part of Bounce Back, we have teamed up with campaign partner North East Lincolnshire Council to make sure everyone receives the benefits they are entitled to.

The authority's newly-launched Quids In initiative is about encouraging eligible households to claim for help towards their rent or council tax.

In the last 12 months, benefit claims to NELC have increased from 18,000 to 21,000 but research has revealed that many people in the area are missing out on money they have a right to.

Now, in these difficult economic times, the council is aiming to pay out an extra £1-million into the community through housing and council tax payments over the next couple of years.

And some of that money could be yours.

Cindy Laherty, NELC's benefits and payments manger, said: "In this current economic downturn, we realise households need every penny they can get to make ends meet.

"The sad reality is that many residents are not aware that they are entitled to extra help.

"There is potentially hundreds of thousands of pounds which still remain unclaimed, so don't delay, phone the Quids In hotline today and find out whether you are eligible for extra cash."

A pilot scheme aimed at helping pensioners has already seen an extra £100,000 being committed in housing and council tax benefit over the next year.

The Quids In campaign aims to reach all sections of the community to make sure they claim what they are entitled to.

Posters will be displayed in venues across the borough and the Quids In team will be visiting Freshney Place several times this month and next to offer help and advice.
