New homes bring hope to East Marsh

Friday, November 21, 2008, 09:00

HAVELOK Homes has invested £4.8-million into new homes in one of Grimsby's most deprived areas.

Thirty-nine new homes have been launched just off Roberts Street on the East Marsh ward.

There will be 29 rented and 10 shared homes, with almost all already taken.

Coun Steve Beasant (East Marsh, Lib) is thrilled the investment has happened in his ward.

He said: "It is a major investment in that piece of land as it has suffered a lot in the past."

Chairman of Havelok Homes Derek Young said: "This has been a unique scheme for Havelok Homes.

"Not only have we regenerated an area which was badly in need of development but we have worked closely with the locals to realise their dreams."

Julie Clarke (23) used to live on Roberts Street.

She said: "It is a good move for the area and about time we had some good news."

Mr Ross officially opens the development watched by (from left) the chairman of Havelok Homes Derek Young, the Mayor and Mayoress of North East Lincolnshire Coun Colin Eastwell and Hilda Burns and Gill Ross. Inset, guests at the ceremony.
