New van gets Grimsby firm back on the road

Friday, January 01, 2010, 06:30

A GRIMSBY removals firm is on the road to recession recovery with the purchase of a new van.

Laughton Removals, based in Lister Street, snapped up the new motor after one of their vehicles was written off in a crash last year.

As reported, the firm's old van was damaged in February, following an incident at Utterby.

Company director Trevor Handy said the new van will get the company motoring.

He said: "This is our first new van in 20 years as we have always bought year-old vehicle.

"The business has done well over the past year, so we thought we would buy a new one.

"When the previous van was written off in the accident, it had a massive impact on the business, as we had to absorb the costs of hiring vehicles and our fleet was down to just three vans for between six to eight weeks.

"The new van is really good news for the business.

"We're back up to four vans and looking forward to the new year with confidence.

"I would like to think that, in spite of the effects of the recession, we have weathered the storm.

"We do a lot of work for auction houses, the council and health authorities and that side of the business has been really good to us during the past year.

"The housing market has been slow, but we are beginning to see signs of recovery, which can only be good news for us.

"The new van gets us back into the top end of the business. which is where we want to be."
