Photographic memories of girl who 'glowed from within'

Wednesday, November 12, 2008, 09:00

TREASURED moments of fun before the tragic accident which killed Chelsea Wheeler were recalled at her funeral.

A packed congregation at Grimsby Crematorium heard how Chelsea (17), her best friend Ashleigh Gregory (17) and their respective boyfriends took fun photos of one another at Chelsea's Laceby home in the morning of the day of the crash.

Later, the boys went for a game of snooker and met up with the girls later for a pizza on Wybers Wood.

They were due to meet up later at Jamie's home in Killingholme, with the girls and boys travelling in separate cars.

Conducting the funeral service , Celebrant Joan Jones said: "How precious are those photos now?"

She said: "That was a fateful journey that was to claim her life."

As reported, the accident happened on October 27 as she drove along the A1173 at Stallingborough.

After a collision with a tree, she died in hospital two days later with her family by her side.

Ashleigh is still recovering in hospital.

Laid in a pink coffin with a large wreath of flowers inscribed with Chelsea, the horse-mad teenager was carried a horse-drawn carriage with white horses dressed with pink plumes on their heads.

Her mum Sue addressed the congregation.

She said: "It is a huge vacuum in our lives and in our hearts. There is deep pain inside, but then we think of about her warm glow. Chelsea glowed from within, like Tinkerbell from Peter Pan. She moved around spreading happiness."

She added: "She touched us with her love."

The mother said: "Family and friends were the most important things in her life."

Grandmother Mo Brocklesby said: "She made our lives light and bright. She loved unconditionally and in turn was loved completely."

Tributes were paid by friends from Healing School and Grimsby Institute.

Music was played throughout the moving service, including Rihanna's Live Your Life, Celine Dion Because You Loved Me and KT Tunstall's Suddenly I See.
