MP's campaign to protect war memorials

Thursday, October 22, 2009, 06:30

WHAT are your Remembrance Day memories and stories?

As Cleethorpes MP Shona McIsaac launches a campaign to protect the nation's fading war memorials and rolls of honour, we want you to get in touch.

As reported, Ms McIsaac has asked the Government to formally recognise war memorials at risk through neglect, damage or development.

She tabled a motion in Parliament last night to protect memorials and rolls of honour not just in North East Lincolnshire but nationally.

It has already been supported by 71 MPs, including former Defence Secretary John Hutton and David Blunkett.

For years, Ms McIsaac has been recording names of the fallen on war memorials throughout Lincolnshire – an interest sparked by growing up in an Armed Forces family.

Now she wants memorials to be protected as a "fantastic tribute" to the fallen.

We will be reporting more on her research, but in the meantime, we want you to tell us your stories.
