Monday, July 06, 2009, 09:00

AFTER tension, excitement and tiaras, Miss Grimsby Telegraph has finally been crowned!

After a 10-year gap, a new glamorous ambassador has been chosen to represent the paper – and the town – at important social events.

Sarah Lowe, 20, a performing studies dance student, took the title and Jade Clay, 19 a fashion photography student, won second place and is Sarah's understudy.

Sarah now gets to use the Miss Grimsby Telegraph car for a year, has a 12-month membership at Oasis Gym and £600 worth of vouchers.

They succeeded against 130 stunning hopefuls.

Sarah and Jade then had to battle it out in the final at the Beachcomber, Humberston, in the final 12.

When the moment of truth came, Sarah, a keen singer, stunned the audience with her rendition of I Will Always Love You, originally sung by Dolly Parton.

Sarah, from Waltham, said: "I feel amazing, I'm so excited and I'm really proud of myself – I didn't expect it! I was nervous throughout the competition, but actually calm as well.

"When they said my name I was so in shock – I couldn't be happier."

She was so excited she even forgot about the Fiat Punto she has won for a year: "I didn't twig about the car until I went backstage after I'd won!

"I already have a Renault Clio, which I feel very sorry for because it's going away for a year.

"I love my Clio – but I love this car more!"

Devoting her spare time to representing a range of charities, including the Artie White Foundation and Cancer Research, she feels ready to take on the role, and hopes the public will agree.

"I feel that I am already a good role model, because I do a lot of charity work, and have raised a lot of money over the years.

"Winning Miss Grimsby Telegraph is fantastic. I just think I'm going to try my hardest to make every single event and fulfil the role as well as I possibly can. I hope people agree that I'm working hard as Miss Grimsby Telegraph!"

Jade, from Humberston, is more than happy to be the understudy. She has already had an excellent year, winning Miss Grimsby in the Miss England heats, and Miss Charity. She said: "I am doing a degree in fashion photography, so this is just up my street!

"The experience has been great, and all the girls have got along, and really enjoyed it.

"I would definitely recommend taking part."
