A LOCAL signing sensation has hit the right notes in national competition to win a dream recording contract.

Eddie Gibbs, 31, of Brookfield Road, Scartho has made it through to the top 50 of the Retail Trust Search For A Star competition after impressing the judges – including Antony Costa from Blue and former Atomic Kitten Liz McClarnon.

At the auditions held in London last weekend, the panel were bowled over by Eddie's performance of The Commitments hit, Dark End of the Street, saying that it was "full of conviction" and "reminiscent of Joe Cocker."

Now Eddie, who works at the Scunthorpe branch of Brighthouse, desperately needs the people of Grimsby and Cleethorpes to vote for him, to put him in with a chance of reaching the final and winning the competition.

He said: "The audition went well. I was a bit nervous beforehand, but once I got up there in front of the judges, I just went for it and really enjoyed it."
