High and low handicap players were paired together and the format proved tricky for some.

But not for Woodward and Arnell, who lifted the trophy originally donated by Janet Broadburn 33 years ago in memory of her late husband.

The inaugural Jubilee Trophy, donated by club captain John Bayliss and lady captain Lynda Tasker, was won by Richard and Gill Kapka.

They achieved the historical triumph by winning a mixed pairs Stableford aggregate played off three-quarters handicap.

The course was not easy, with crosswinds affecting the back nine holes.

But the winning pair still posted a great score of 70 points. The runners-up were John and Barbara Bayliss. They scored 65. Mark and Kate Appleyard finished a point further back in third.

Sunny weather helped attract a field of about 150 players for the men's invitation day.

Matt Bloomer and Ken Turnstall won the competition with a net score of 63. Dave Hannay and Graham Evison finished second, on net 65.

The best gross on the day was carded by Paul Stenton and Darren Fuller – a superb 66.

Peter Allman's Senior Captain's Day attracted 54 men and was won by Marinus Maasdam, from runner-up Dave Tidswell.

Derek Broughton was nearest the pin on the 11th.

Ray Hudson won the putting competition.
