“I have to agree wit hthe light pollution comment Grimlander, especially after viewing Edinborough at mightnight from 36,000 feet! it makes you realise that not many areas of the UK are free of light pollution. Took twelve pictures but was'nt sure how many i could post ..... Am hoping to get a couple of the pictures printed on to A3 and framed.... would look good over the fireplace!”
Only seen it meself once in those climes -- from the deck of the old Bremen-built reparations trawler, 'Northern Duke', on our way 'White Sea/Bear Island -- "Never came a night/Setting the stars alight/To wonder at the moon...", but it was flat o'calm and we lay on the boat-deck/engine-room casing with our mugs of tea, marvelling at those shimmering curtains. No pics, tho' -- decent exposure for that not possible from the heaving 'N. Duke', even in "flat o' calm" conditions.
I do actually remember also seeing the aurorae from Grimland's Scartho Field (AND the Milky Way), some 60 years ago when just cleared of allotments and 'laid to grass'. Fat chance today, with Humber Bank atmospheric pollution almost continuous -- floodlit by NE£incs' and Highways-Agency's light pollution on the grandest scale seen ANYWHERE!”
