No place today for animals in circus
MY name is Mark Atkinson – I am one of the Earth Bound Misfits.
We are one of Lincolnshire's leading circus and street theatre performance and tuition group
I am writing to Viewpoint to appeal to you, the reader. We teach circus skills in many of Grimsby's schools and promote non-animal circus.
In our opinion animal circuses are outdated and cruel and with the amazing all human circuses on the circuit, it has been proved that animals are not needed.
For those of you who say it's a tradition, does that mean we should keep all traditions?
Anyway people of North East Lincolnshire, please may we ask you to:
Not support the Great British Circus when it arrives in Grimsby.
Show your support for non-animal circus. Ask your local shops to take the animal circus posters down and bin the leaflets.
Join the friendly, ever-growing animal circus protesters an hour before the shows.
This year they are bringing elephants. Why?
If London Zoo closed its elephant house due to a lack of space, how can this circus justify keeping its elephants in even more cramped conditions?
We will continue to fight against animals in circus and have every faith in most of the public of North East Lincolnshire to do the same.

“James Great Britain
I think it is you who is ill informed!
Do you actually know what it involves to train a big cat or elephant?
Did you also know that when threats where made to maybe change the animal welfare bill so animal circus would be banned Martin Lacy said he would shoot his cats and that Born free tried to contact him numerous times to relocate the cats to be reabilitated to the wild.
Enquiring minds do wonder”

“Many people are judging this circus through speculation and without seeing it, many people who are commenting most possibly have no knowledge of animals and how to care for them etc. The animals are extreamly well looked after and are not cruely treat in any way, they have a vet and people with lots of experince in keeping such animals .
If the circus was to close wat would happen to the animals ? the RSPCA and other such organisations do not have the knowledge facilities to take in exotic animals and many zoos would be unable to take them in. Plus if you are still going to zoos and other wildlife attractions that is no better than a circus !”

“Years and years ago, people welcomed the animal circus. Now, you can't do anything without doing wrong by somebody. I will be taking my children to this circus, as I was taken as a child.”

“If we are to be fair about this, all pets should be banned too. Dogs and cats should return to being wild predators, budgies to singing in the jungle and stick insects to whatever it is they like doing.”

“Absolutely agree, outdated and causes uneccessary suffering all in the name of entertainment. If you want to see wild animals go to Africa.”

“Save your cash for a non animal circus. I would like people to vote with your feet and not go to the circus. I think your feet should take you to the sate circus which is coming back soon. They have plans to come back in September.
Thank you
Ryan Day”
