ONE of Lincolnshire's oldest pubs is offering food and ales fit for a king thanks to its new manager.

The King's Head in Tealby, has been re-opened by experienced landlord Sol Pickwell-Nicolaou after standing empty for most of January.

As reported, the previous landlords, Brian and Brenda McFarlene, ceased trading in December.

Now Sol and his team of eight staff hope to breathe new life into the picturesque pub.

He said: "It's an absolutely beautiful thatched building and I fell in love with it as soon as I came to look around.

"I wasn't really looking to take on another pub at the moment but I couldn't resist.

"It has a cosy but contemporary interior and plenty of room outside which will be fantastic in the summer."

After refurbishing the kitchen and introducing new furniture to the pub – which is believed to date back to 1367 – Sol hopes to make it a must-visit destination for those travelling from near and far.

He said: "We really believe that the pub should be at the heart of the community and it's been fantastic to meet so many locals.

"We've got room for all kinds of functions and I'm planning a charity garden party in the summer to encourage even more people to come and see what we've got to offer.

"We also hope it will become a destination dining venue for people looking for a quality meal in a superb setting."

As well as a selection of bar meals, the venue offers an a-la-carte evening menu and a three-course Sunday lunch for just £13.95.

Sol, who has been in the catering and hospitality industry for more than 20 years, said: "We're really passionate about the food we serve.

"We are using locally sourced, seasonal produce wherever possible and everything is freshly prepared on site.

"At the moment we've got a pheasant special on the menu and the bird was shot and bought in by one of our regulars.

"We've also got Lincolnshire fillet of beef which is proving really popular."

The King's Head is open from 11am to 11pm Thursday to Saturday, with food served from noon to 9pm.

It is open from noon to 10pm on Sundays, with lunches currently served from noon to 4pm – although this is set to be extended.

“Good luck with this new venture. It is indeed a wonderful little pub. I just hope you can overcome the bad reputation it earned while being ran by Brian and Brenda”
