EIGHT down, one to go – our search for the region’s Pub Idol continues...

The line up for this year’s grand final is almost complete, with just one heat remaining – and this Wednesday, the Pub Idol spotlight shines on the stage at Lucarly’s.

So far, our search for the region’s finest singing sensation has seen about 40 brave contestants step up to the Pub Idol mic in eight exciting heats.

Last week, Cleethorpes barmaid Simone Litchfield joined earlier heat winners Sureina Dais, Tony Clarke, Ebony Reeve, Fiona Beasley, Rachel Harrington, Chris Thorpe, and wildcard finalists Michael Ray and Martin Cole in the Pub Idol grand final.

And Wednesday’s last heat at Lucarly’s promises to be just as tense as the previous eight.

But who, out of the remaining entrants will make a date at The Submarine, where £500 and the all-important Pub Idol crown is up for grabs?

1. ‘CONFIDENT and outgoing’ 22-year-old Amy Wrightham has a dream to make it big as a famous singer.

She’ll be hoping to take a first step on the long road to fame and fortune with her takes on two classics – Roy Orbison’s I Drove All Night and Marc Cohn’s iconic Walking In Memphis – which has famously been covered by both Cher and Bruce Springsteen.

AMY Greetham is likely to be a familiar face to followers of Pub Idol.

The 20-year-old barmaid and musical theatre devotee entered the early September heat at the Beluga Bar, where she treated the crowd to her versions of Mercy by Duffy and the Billie Holiday classic That Old Devil Called Love.

Though she didn’t win, she impressed us so much she has been invited back. – and, lucky for us – she agreed.

2. PUB Idol 2008 marks the start of a special adventure for 20-year-old Francesca Hodge.

She doesn’t normally sing in public but was talked into entering by friends and family “after a few drinks”.

Next year, she plans to go travelling.

Unlike Dean, she has finalised one of her songs – it will be Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow, and she’ll take her inspiration from Amy Winehouse.

3. QUALIFIED dance teacher and classically trained singer Sarah Lowe tells us singing “means everything” to her.

She’ll be showing off her vocal talents with her takes on Whitney Houston’s I Will Always Love You and Lady Marmalade.

If she wins she has promised to use the money to pay off some of her student loan – unless she decides to go on a spending spree instead.

4. YOU may recognise plumbing lecturer John Hampshire.

The 59-year-old took part in the very first heat at The Swashbuckle way back in August. Then he told us that he will take to the stage with a smile on his face.

“I really enjoy singing,” he said. “I find it’s a total change from what I normally do – it’s as if I’m two different people. There’s an on-stage John and an off-stage John.”

5. DJ Dean Walker has been singing on-and-off for about 10 years and says that he enjoys entertaining people and that he always does his best to ensure his performance is as perfect as possible.

The big surprise is likely to be Dean’s choice of songs, as he is keeping his choices quiet...
