PAT Salah (nee Gardner), of Ash Court, Cleethorpes, got in touch after we published this photograph.

Pat said: "The caption says it is Fildes Street, but it looks like another West Marsh street.

"I used to live at 98 Fildes Street, opposite Fox's chippie. I'm sure it didn't have the arched alleyways and I can't remember the trees at the end of the street near South Parade School."

“It is Oliver St / Freshney St corner Jim16 but looking down Freshney St.
Oliver St didn't have a terrace this long.
The New Standard Club is on this corner now, and the entrance into the club car park is all that remains of Freshney St.”

“This looks like the paper shop on the corner of Freshney Street and Oliver Street looking down Oliver to the Boulevard Gardens.”

“Thanks for the picture Grimsby Bygones :)

Pat is right, Fildes Street never had the arched alleyways between every other house like this. This looks like Freshney Street taken from the junction of Oliver Street looking towards the Duke of York Gardens. If the photographer had turned to the left to view the other side of the street Grimsby General Hospital would have been at the end. Looking at this view in the present you would be looking along Waterside Drive.”
