    Worth waiting for

“Just tried to book a table for three people at tea-time and they tell me they have a lot of bookings so I will have to go and be prepared to wait - but some things are just worth waiting for”

    You just can't go wrong

“You just can't go wrong at Steels! The staff are excellent, very friendly and very helpful. You get fish at its best, fried or grilled, lovely chips, tea and a plate full of bread and butter all in the price! What more could you want?
I booked a table before hand as my mum can't get up the stairs and I must stay I felt a bit guilty walking straight in past a queue of people, but it was loveyl to have the table waiting for us. Excellent as always”

Best steak pie in the country

“I can't believe people have actually put negative reviews on here, I have eaten at Steels for over 30 years and I LOVE the fact that it has never changed, so many places change, usually for the worst, I have never found a steak pie to equal Steels in all my travels, lovely suet crust pastry that you don't find anywhere else, packed fully of lovely steak, excellent value for money and lovely staff!”

    Steels Christmas menu - excellent

“Just been in for Steels Christmas menu and what a choice. You can get a main meal for £8.95, two courses for £10.95 and three courses (oh my belly!) for £12.95.
For main meals choose from turkey, salmon or vegetable frittata. The meal also includes coffee, mints and mince pies, (oh my belly!)
This special menu is served noon-3pm and 6-9pm.
Guess how many courses I had? (oh my belly!)
    Excellent!!”

    First rate

“I'd never been in here before but had heard good things about it including actor Timothy Spall's claim it was the best fish and chips he'd ever had.

Went on a Saturday evening and had to queue outside for about 15 minutes which was about the same as the highly-rated Magpie's in Whitby.

Once we were in, it wasn't long before we were served and I have to say the three fishcakes and chips I had were superb - probably the best I've eaten anywhere. Loved that the tea and bread was included in the price as well.

All in all, it costs more than your average chippy but I'd definitely go again.”

    Always busy!

“Whenever I go past Steels, it is always busy, and sometimes the queue is out of the door! It has a great reputation for people coming to the resort, a trip to the restaurant is always a must! I love it that the waitresses still have the old fashioned uniform on, and the decor has not changed inside. It can get a little cramped in there sometimes, but they have upstairs seating aswell! The fish and chips are lovely and it is nice to get a nice bit of bread and butter to accompany your meal!”

Steels not the best, not even nearly the best

“I took some of my family to Steels 3 weeks ago,we sat in the middle of the restaurant under a blast of cold air, the fish & chips were not what i would expect from a well known restaurant , its years since i last went and thought i would give it a try,but i regetited it. they are miles behind the Ocean Bar for quality of food, service and a clean bright restaurant..
