What's On (Aug 3-5): Youth Arts and Sports Festival, Footloose, Picnic in the Park and more

The annual Youth Arts and Sports Festival returns to the Meridian Park Showground in Cleethorpes on Saturday.

Among the entertainment on offer will be live music from young rock and DJ performers, dance shows, street theatre and arts and crafts. Inflatable rides, a mobile skatepark and sports demonstrations will also be taking place.

Each Sunday throughout August, People’s Park in Grimsby will host a Picnic in the Park featuring live music in the bandstand alongside plenty of family entertainment.

The first free event this Sunday will include a performance from North East Lincolnshire’s youth steel pan band, Steel The Rhythm.

Students of the Louth Playgoers’ Summer Workshop bring the classic 80s musical Footloose to the stage at the Riverhead Theatre this week.

The story of city boy Ren bringing dance back into the heart of a town held back by the memory of a tragedy is accompanied by the memorable title track ‘Footloose’ along with others including ‘Holding Out For a Hero’, ‘Almost Paradise’ and ‘Let’s Hear It For The Boy’.

Hundreds of travellers are set to visit North Lincolnshire this Saturday for the 808th Brigg Horse Fair.

The tradition of the fair dates back to 1235 and attracts travellers from all over the country. The heart of the parade will take place on Station Road, Brigg, with horses set to be paraded through the town from 10am with traditional Romany music playing throughout the day.

Trade stalls selling horse-related equipment, including saddles and riding clothes, will also line the streets of the town.

Hundreds of dog lovers will descend on Winterton Showground with their pets this weekend to compete in the Scunthorpe Dog Show.

There will be four rings of activity, with hundreds of dogs competing against each other in a variety of classes – including a spectacular race involving two teams of four dogs on the Saturday at 5pm.

The classic children’s tale Pinocchio is to be performed against the backdrop of Baysgarth House this Sunday.

Presented by The StoryTellers Theatre Company, this hour-long show will feature songs, puppets, scenery and costumes and is sure to captivate all who watch.

Refreshments will be available to raise funds for Baysgarth House Museum. Spectators are advised to bring along a chair and picnic for the show.

Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane makes his feature film directorial debut with Ted.

MacFarlane himself provides the voice of Ted, a teddy bear who is brought to life when lonely child John (played as an adult by Mark Wahlberg) wishes for his new Christmas gift to come to life.

Nearly 30 years later, Ted is living in a Boston apartment with John and has become a vulgar and immature waster. Their friendship is tested when John’s girlfriend Lori (Mila Kunis) wants more from their relationship.
