THE countdown is on for the Louth Run For Life.

The event, on Sunday, June 24, will raise thousands of pounds for Cancer Research, and organisers hope this year will be a record breaker.

The chairman of the organising committee, Simon West, said: "People should not be put off by it being called Run For Life, as we are happy for entrants to walk, jog or run.

"It is about taking part in this great community event."

The day will begin with the junior run for under-12s at 10am, followed by the women's 5km run at 10.30am and finally the men's 5km run at 11.45am.

Everyone who finishes will receive a goody bag and a commemorative medal.

The routes take in Eastgate, Burnt Hill Lane, Queen Street and then Aswell Street. The route for the senior races goes through the picturesque Hubbard's Hills before heading back to the finish area in the Cornmarket.

There will be warm-up exercises by fitness coach Hollie Wells before each race.

And there will be prizes for the best entries in fancy dress, either in pink, in red white and blue for the Olympic and Jubilee themes or any other outfit.

The main event is again sponsored by Louth Co-operative and supported by a number of other organisations, including Louth Town Council, Bridge McFarland, TWG Wealth Management, Louth Athletics Club, DS Smith, Bostock Scaffolding and Carphone Warehouse.

Registration for the event can be completed at Tina & Lynne's cafe, in Cornmarket.

Entry forms are also available from Louth Cancer Research shop, in the Market Place, and they can be downloaded from www.louthrunforlife.webs.com/

Those running will get a sponsor form in their entry pack, but can also raise funds at www.justgiving.com/teams/louthrunforlife

The committee is always looking for volunteers to help on the day. If you are interested, or have other queries about the event, contact Mr West on 07971 159138.
